40-year-old Shelley became the mayor of Delhi after leaving teaching

Shelley Oberoi is the most talked about name in the politics of New Delhi, the capital of India . This 40-year-old woman has become the mayor of Delhi. One after another, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the center could not stop him. Shelly, the leader of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (UP) in Delhi, finally sat in the mayor's seat after the Supreme Court's intervention.



Shelley Oberoi's journey into politics began in 2013. In just a decade, he has made noise by sitting in an important position like the mayor of Delhi. Along with politics, he was also a teacher. He was an assistant professor at Delhi University.

Shelley was born in Delhi in 1983. Studied at Faith Academy and Janki Devi Memorial College, Delhi. He was good at studies since childhood. Graduated in Commerce. Shelley did his Masters in Commerce from Himachal Pradesh University. Later he received another master's degree in philosophy from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu.

Shelley is pursuing her PhD from the School of Management Studies, Indira Gandhi National Open University. He was admitted here in 2017. Among them, Shelley has a diploma in commerce and management.

Shelly's father Satish Kumar Oberoi is a businessman. Mother Saroj Oberoi is a housewife. Apart from parents, Shelley has one brother and one sister. He is not married yet.


Shelley started teaching at Delhi University in September 2014. Later since January 2021 he is also working as a Visiting Faculty in Management at MMIMS, Mumbai. He has written 35 articles on teaching profession. He is a Life Member of Indian Commerce Association (ICA).

Being interested in politics, Shelley joined AAP on the hand of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. She is the vice president of the party's Delhi women's wing. He was appointed to this post in 2020. Shelley is a known face of various election campaigns for AAP.
Less than 10 years before joining politics, Shelley ran for the first time. AAP's candidate Shelley was elected councilor from East Patel Nagar (Ward No. 86) in the Delhi Municipal Elections in December last year.

Shelley was later nominated by the party for the post of Mayor of Delhi. After that, Shelley had to face many dramas. Out of 250 seats in the Delhi Municipality, AAP won 134, BJP 104 and Congress 9 in the December polls. Independent candidates won in 3 wards.

But the BJP leadership started saying that BJP's candidate Rekha Gupta will be the mayor even if AAP has the numbers. From that start doubts. AAP thinks that BJP will play the game of buying councilors with money. Three times the mayoral election has become bogus due to intense arguments.

UP's mayoral candidate Shelley approached the Supreme Court. After the intervention of the Supreme Court on Wednesday, the tables of the BJP turned upside down. AAP candidate Shelly Oberoi defeated BJP's Rekha Gupta by 34 votes in yesterday's mayoral election. Shelley got 150 votes, Rekha 116.

Congratulating Shelley, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "The mob wins, the goons lose."
